Ring Shout

Ring Shout or Shout is a dance and song ritual that was originally created by African
Slaves and in the West Indies. Though a lot of what was known about it has been lost to
time, the Ring Shout is and was a big part of the black experience in this nation.

Though the outcome was mostly positive and featured all the great things the
Ring Shout has done for the black population, there is a darker
side of the Ring Shout. While the Ring Shout may not be well known today it’s
importance should be well known to the American public since it has been able to uplift
black folks through the centuries while also providing many of today’s harmful
stereotypes.
